And I can’t Tell you Why

I spent one month in Iran at the Kooshk artist residency. I collected old newspapers that were published after the revolution. With the black marker, I crossed most of the words only leaving words that created a fictional story. I cut the images out of the newspapers with people’s faces that fought for freedom and died or were imprisoned, put them in small jars for keeping salt and filled it with the ink. Gradually ink observed the paper and faces on the photographs faded away.
